Busy weekend Lifton vs Polzeath & Plymouth vs Ipswich

Welcome to another weekend of ground hopping.  We start off on Saturday at a ground we know extremely well, QE2  Recreation Ground, for Lifton Vs Polzeath (who apparently play their football at Callywith-which has a superb 4G pitch).  Then on Sunday, we venture down to Home park, for what should be quite an encounter as 3rd place Plymouth take on table toppers Ipswich Town.

On paper, it should ahve been extremely one sided, Polzeath were unable to field a full team and only 10 players, including the goalkeeper took to the pitch. However, football, as we know is a funny old game. Polzeath came with a plan, playing 4-4-1 and outplayed Lifton early doors and took a desrved 1-0 lead inside the first 15mins. Lifton battled hard and had numerous chances but all were wide of the mark, or the goal keeper saved. Even with 9 men on the pitch (a player went off for treatment) Lifton made a meal of it, however, just before half-time, Lifton got their reward and equalised.

Whatever was said in the dressing room had some affect, as within minutes of the restart, Lifton were 2-1 up. At this point you would think the flood gates would open and the goals would flow. You would be wrong, Polzeath worked and worked and made life difficult for Lifton. Eventually Lifton made it 3-1

In the last 10 mins, Polzeath started to tire, understandably, and during a goalmouth scramble, the ball came out to XT, who I think was a little surprised to find himself 8 yards out, cacked the ball with his left foot on the volley against the post, however, during to an earlier infringement, the ref blew for a penalty. Upstepped Will, who is only 16, to slot home a perfectly taken kick to make the score 4-1. Game over ! or so you would think, back came Polzeath almost immeadiatley and made it 4-2.

The score line flatters Lifton massively. Polzeath worked hard and were hungrier and based upon this performance, providing they have a full squad they should do alright.

From a players perspective the game itself looked fairly easy at first but it wasn't quit as easy as we all maybe thought. We started the game strong and they were sitting off us and allowing us to control the ball in their half. mid way through the first half Polzeath broke forward and had a shot which hit the post but fell to another one of the players who put it away to make 1-0. We came out strong into the second, Connor scored our first goal of the game to make it 1-1. Ralph scored a stunner to make it 2-1 and then Webby made it 3-1 soon afterwards. At one point i thought I wasn't going to get onto the pitch, but I came on with around 8 minutes to go. with about 5 minutes to go we had a corner and after bouncing off a few heads the ball landed infront of me so I thought i would have a crack on my left foot but it hit the post, luckily in the build up to that there was a handball so we were awarded a penalty. Will took the penalty which he pu away nicely to make it 4-1. A slight lapse in concentration saw them score their second not long after the restart. A hard faught game got us our first win in the league and our second win of the season. Now we look to our next game where we are away to Gorran FC.
