Measteg, Garth Vader FC & Swansea

 Morning all

Today we are back in Wales for the Championship match between Swansea and  Milwall. Hopefully we will see some goals, Im not a fan (LT) of Martins pretty pass the ball style of play, I would much rather see attack, attack, attack football, even if Swansea loose, this 75% possession play is sooooo boring!!!!!!!

However, that is not until the evening. To start with we are going to Maesteg, a small town up from Bridgend

They are well serviced by local sports teams, there ae always loads of ruby clubs wherever you go in Wales, and Maesteg is no exception but they also have a couple of football teams, Maesteg Park Atheltic Football club and the wonderfully named Garth Vader FC

Maesteg play at Tutor Park, is another pitch with wonderful views on 2 sides and houses on the other 2. The club has been around since 1945 in one form or another but reformed into it's current form in 2010.  They play in the South Wales Alliance Division One. The floodlights were installed in the early 80s and to celebrate the instalation, Maesteg played Cardiff city-no idea what the score was but I do know Maesteg made it the last 8 of the Welsh Cup being knocked out by Swansea City in 1980.

Although the games were firmly locked, we managed to get a few photos, the fact the ground has floodlights is impressive, there is also a dugout or perhaps a mini stand but not sure if there are any other facilites.

Second ground of the day was by way the smallest but everything else was massive. Start with the name Garth Vader FC, just shear brillance, the idea behind the club can be read on the official website here

If you stand on that concrete monstrosity (how it hasn't been condemed for H&S) you can get a good view of the pitch

Homage to the rich mining heritage of the area, this reminds me of any amount of pitch villages in the NE

The view

The (one) goal post

The kits-wowwwwww!!! I wonder if I can get hold of one?

Vader play in the  Bridgend & District Sunday League - Premier Division and have been quite successful since they began playing in 2010

The heavens have opend and we are off to see the mighty Jack army (hopefully) batter Milwall in a league match tonight. We will be taking both video and still footage tonight, so if there is anything exciting happens, we will do a follow up tomorrow.

Enjoy your football
