At Porthcawl Town AFC, a post season visit

I cant believe how long we've been coming to Porthcawl and neither of us has somehow managed to vist the local football club..

A lovely little ground, unlike the grounds we visted in Cornwall this season(which all seem to be in the middle of countryside), Porthcawl is tooked away in amongst houses and about a 2 min walk from the sea front.

You are greeted with a decent carpark, a club house and 3 training/reserve pitches (and the cricket club) although, when we arrived I (Larry) thought this was the first team pitch, in my defence I'm off colour, so it was an easy mistake to make,

Porthcawl have been around since 1947 and I think they have been at the same ground, Locks Lane, ever since. They currently play in the South Wales Alliance League, Premier Division. Where they survived this season by 2pts and a superior goal difference from Trebanog FC (The Welsh have some fantastic team names-most of which I unable to pronouce )

During the 90s, Porthcawl had quite a bit of success, cup wins and promotions and enjoying several decent runs in the Welsh Cup, making the semis in 1996.
Porthcawl currently run a 1st team, reserves and 3rds plus a number of junior clubs. Although I'm not sure if they have a ladies team(yet)

I love a dug outand got quite excited when I saw these, although the away dugout doesn't have "away" written on it anymore.

However the ones on the fits team pitch have locked gates over them!!!

Not that I was able to take a decent photo with the big fence and locked gates and all. I stood on a pile of gravel to take this.

The first and last photo was me holding my phone through the fence and hoping I didnt drop it.
You can just see the stand, we also love a stand at a minor league ground. Polpero is still my fav stand visited this season but this looks a challenger.

When pre season starts or even early season, we will be going back to get better photos and watch the "seasiders", whoever they are up against.

I saw this in the window of the club house and thought how good it was. Football is a wonderful sport and it does bring people together but I have seen people lose their mind over the slightest mistake at grassroots level and this poster should just remind people to enjoy the game, then go for a cuppa or pint afterwards and get over it.

One final thing to like about the club-the home strip is red and white :), although the stripes are broader than my beloved Sunderland (Larry) and more Sheff Utd size stripes. Gotta love a team in red and white (except perhaps Stoke)

We are visiting a few more grounds this week, AFC Butetown, Port Talbot (again) and Afan Lido. Enjoy your post season and we look forward to watching you soon.
