We hav e a busy old weekend ahead of us. Starting off at St Dominick's, who play at Lovells, Cornwall. Then on Monday (Easter Monday) we travel to Victoria Road ground, home to Port Talbot, for our first (or what will be our first ) post on Welsh grounds and we will then the end the week watching Swansea stuff the Boro at the Swansea.Com Stadium. Yes, we know Swansea aren't a small team, of biggest in Wales but we support the Jack Army whenever we can get.
Lovel Park is yet another beautiful little ground. . They have 2 dugouts and they're perhaps the nicest I have sat in all season. The only thing that was missing was a pie stand..
30mins to kick off and we have a crowd gathering.the sunshine must be bringing them out, I think at one point, I counted 30 spectators. And they were rewarded with an entertaining match.
A tough 1st 45 which saw Lifton take a deserved lead, a few dubious referee decisions and a few lapses in defence seeing St Dom's go in at halftime 2-1 up.
The second half dint get much better for Lifton as they shortly found themselves 3-1. However, depending on how you want to describe it, Lifton proved lightning can strike twice, or if you wish to be less charitable to the home side, a goal keeping comedy of errors occurred. 2 free kicks within 2 or 3 mins, same position, same sort of shot by Jordan with the exact same end result. The Ball somehow magically slipped through the keepers hands TWICE!!!!! Bringing the score back to 3-3
Then within a few minutes, St Doms were back in front, due to another (?) possible goal keeping error. The game was far from finished, the St Doms defence, looked far from resilient and their goalie's confidence was shot to bits with the earlier errors and with Lifton having the bit well and truly between their teeth, the equalizer came with about 15mins from time. Jordan scoring a hat-trick. St Doms did get the ball in the back of the net for the 5th time but due to a fowl it was disallowed and a free kick awarded. Lifton had the better of the last 10 minutes but an exciting 4-4 draw was probably about fair.
From a players perspective, the ground was quite nice to play on, not overly bobbley like in the few games previously. The changing rooms were nice, not a great deal of space but they looked clean. The game itself was quite exciting, we took the lead early on from a long range effort from Mason which the keeper fumbled and pushed it back out into play, Carwyn put away the rebound but as the ball went over the line the goal belonged to Mason. This was followed up by St Dominicks scoring 2 goals before the break. We should've had a penalty not long before their second goal,Hodgey was through after getting round the goalkeeper but the keeper grabbed hold of Hodgey, denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. At the start of the second half Leon came onto the pitch to make his first appearance since our Devon Intermediate cup exit to St Thomas social club. Not long into the second half and we went 3-1 down, We sarted our comeback with a fantasicly struck free kick by Mason which the keeper failed to catch got us back to 3-2, not too long after, Mason scored another goal in the same fasion a brilliant free kick which the goalkeeper failed to catch, bringing the score to 3-3. We then went 4-3 up as Barry scored into the bottom corner of the goal. Just before I came on, St Domminick brought the game back to 4-4. I came onto the pitch hoping to get a goal but it wasn't to be unfortunatley, I could've had a crack when I had the ball on the right side of the pitch but I felt I was at an awkward angle and with one of their players baring down on me, I wasn't going to have much time to get the shot away. Not long before the final whistle Chris made a good save to keep things all square. A good game, but it is a shame we weren't able to get the 3 points but an overall good performance from the lads today. Next week I am unfortunatley away for our away fixture to St Brewards and our Launceston Cup semi final against Altarnun. Good luck to the lads next week in both those games and lets round out the season strong in our remaining fixtures where we are away to St Cleer on the 30th and a Wednesday night game away to North Pethwerwin on the 4th of May.
