9th April Pensilva Vs Lifton

Another bright and sunny day as we followed Lifton all the way to Pensilva. A Nice easy ground to find, although it took us longer to find the car park (Im blaming Google)

The changing rooms ( as XT informs me) were the nicest he has been in since he was playing at Tavistock earlier in the season

The pitch was anything but flat, there was a decided incline and camber, but it didnt seem to affect the game much (easy for me to say) other than loads of long balls

They had a nice little stand, which proved a very novel view once inside (it also gave some protection from a sun we haven't seen for a bit)

There was a decent crowd, perhaps helped by the playpark and an ice-cream van.

Warming up before kick-off

The opening stages of the game were a bit cagey with neither side making any real chances until a lovely through ball found Lewis who had loads of time to tuck the ball home. Depending on who you talk to, it may have been a tad offside but the linesman on the far side was watching something else on the pitch, so didnt wave the flag, so it counts.

Barry seamed quite pleased with the goal anyway.

Although Lifton had the upper hand for most of the game they struggled to make possession count until late in the second half

I was down the other end of the pitch (which is one thing I like about minor league football-you can move all around the ground) so I couldnt see why a pentaly was given exactly, although it could have been a trip.

Upsteppted Lewis to tuck the ball in the bottom right hand corner for his and Lifton's second.

There was however enough time after the penalty for a few more attacks, despite a number of decent cosses, Liftons attack met stern resistance from the Pensilva defence and the goalie was equal to anything thrown at him. 2-0 to Lifton in the end which was probably a fair result given Liftons possession superiority.

From a players perspective, this was quite a nice pitch to play on, despite the incline it was quite flat but with the dry weather the pitch was a lot more bobbley in places. The changing rooms were probably the best I've been in all season apart from the ones at Tavistock College when we played our away fixture against Calstock on Tavistock's astro. We were on top for most of the game, we were very much the better side.
Had the home team linesman been paying attention to game, the first goal may  have been a free kick.
I got onto the pitch with about 5 minutes to go, I did my best to do what I could in that time. We had a freekick not too far from the Pensilva penalty area, I was moving around a lot to try and lose my marker but as the ball was played in he grabbed on to me, meaning I could not move, I  chose not to protest it as the game was almost over and we were 2-0 to the good. Lewis scored both our goals today a tidy finish in the first half and a good composed penalty in the second. With 4 remaining games we now face St Dominicks away next Saturday, hopefully another win and we can move our way up the table. XT
