The Pizza Cup: Home Park, Plymouth vs Crystal Palace U21s

This is will be my first experience of this cup. Sunderland managed to break their Wembley hoo-do by winning this, all be it at the second attempt against Tranmere but still a win is a win. The atmosphere last time at Home Park was electric against the Tractor Boys but somehow I can't see it getting to that level tonight against Crystal palace babies. Especially as it's a cold night in October. Although we are both in the ground tonight, Im on my todd as XT is in the warmth and luxury of the press box( more later)in an official capacity, reporting on the game. Whereas, I am in the cheap seats in the Lyndhurst stand. This is also a bit of asad occaision as it will be the first match to be played at Plymouth since Gordon Sparks passed away at the weekend. Gordon was a legend in local broadcasting for the BBC and had covered Plymouth Argyle for over 30 years Midway through the first half and it's fair to say it's been a tad dull ...

Bude FC 22 Jan 22

(pre match notes) We are off to Bude FC today, approx 20 miles up the road so not very far, unless we get stuck behind tractors, then it could take a while. A little research suggests this is the biggest ground we will have been to so far (the first team charges admission), they have a stand, a bar, a reserve team-who we are playing today, a ladies team (playing Sunday-which we may go and see) and a youth team. Bude are also sitting second in the Dutchy East 1st, so it looks like it will be a tough old game for Lifton. Bude beat Tintagel 13-0 in Dec (we only won 7-1), They drew at home to Boscatle, we didnt but the conditions were difficult. Just a quick note about getting here. Google take you passed Morrisons into an estate which is a dead end. Drive down main road to the next garage and turn right then it's easy to find. First ticket office we have seen.!!! and as this was a reserve match (for Bude) a tiny crowd of about 15 turned up and paid and ...

Plymouth Vs Ipswich at Home Park 25/9/23

Second match of the weekend. A return to Home Park but this time we are here in the Devonport end. I haven't seen an Ipswich match since Roker Park, which is quite some time and I think it was worth the wait. This was third vs top and if Plymouth won, they would leapfrog Ipswich. A beautiful sunny day brought a good sized crowd of over 15000, including 1000 or so traveling fans from Suffolk. In terms of possession, Plymouth just about edged the first half but as we all know, when a favoured ex-striker returns to the ground with the away team there is only ever one outcome. Every time he got the ball, Freddie Ladapo, the partizan crowd boo-ed him with all the good natured intent of bumping into you ex. So it was inevitable that he should score the first goal. Towards the end of the 1st half, Ladapo got a shot in, which looked harmless enough, it even looked like it was going wide, only for it to curl into the goal.
