Happy New Year to you all.
This was our first ground visit for a while and our first of 2022. Today we traveled to Boscatle in Cornwall for the Boscastle vs Lifton game. A few months ago, September 2021 to be precise, we went to Tintagel, which still rates as one of my favourite grounds.
We arrived to this, a very wet and windy day. Luckily (sort of) the rain didn't stop the match.
Despite the rain, the pitch was actually quite decent, although the wind made playing conditions very diffcult.
The ground was a typical minor league ground, a pitch and a small clubhouse. But as with most grounds we have been to in Devon & Cornwall since we started this blog, it was surrounded by wide open spaces and the views can be stunning, even with todays dramatic weather conditions, the views were spectacular.
Lifton (in red) took an early lead against Boscastle 1sts, who if league positions were to be believed, were a much stronger team, sitting in 3rd. However, the lead didn't last long as Boscastle hit back very quickly and eventually ran out convincing winners (with a little help of a tail wind) 5-1.
It always amazes me why there are never bigger crowds at these minor league grounds, what crowd there is tends to be friends, Wags and dads. No doubt the weather put a lot off today, although someone out for a walk with the dog did stick their head in for a few minutes then went off.
For starters, admission is FREE!, where else can you get free admission these days? The quality of match maybe nowhere near Premier standard but the matches are never dull. Every match we have been to has been full of grit and determination and more importantly GOALS. Which, after all, is what we want to see, especially if you are a neutral. The lowest scoring game we have been to this season was at Lifton when they beat Tintagel 2-0, apart from that, most games have been a goal fest.
