Football is not always about the Premier League and it's well paid superstars. Small Ground Boy (SGB) is all about the polar opposite. Minor leagues, small crowds, and people who refuse to let their footballing dreams die. It's about how important these clubs are to the community, many offer a rich history and have been established for as long, if not longer than their more illustrious EFL & Premier League compatriots.
This side project came about through XT working on a photography project in his 2nd year at college. He was researching small non-league football grounds, mainly in the UK but also a few in Iceland and the Faroe Islands. So this blog is very much a homage to non-league football in the UK and is not to be considered a review of football grounds around the country.
We don't mind how well teams perform, which division they are in, how many fans attend, what, or if there are any facilities, we are not even bothered about the availability of meat pies, although a decent cuppa wouldnt go a miss. All we are concerned about is taking photos of the many beautiful and not so beautiful grounds around the UK in order to create an archive and possibly a history of grassroots football, watching the beautiful game at it's most basic level and having a bit of fun as we go about our way.
This blog is a collaboration between XT & Larry. When XT is playing, writing & photography duties will fall to Larry.
Our first official post will be up tomorrow as we are off to see the mighty Bodmin Town FC vs St Blazey AFC at Priory Park at 730pm tonight. Lets hope the rain keeps off.
Unfortunately the game has been called off, so the first official post will be Lifton vs Appledore 2nds
